This month is proving to be quite the space spectacular. From the return of the SpaceX Crew Dragon Endeavour and @Astro_Doug and @AstroBehnken on the 2nd to the launch of NASA's newest Mars Rover, the Perseverance, I've been all atwitter.
Riding along in the underbelly of the rover is the first Mars helicopter, Ingenuity. We'll have the first flight on another planet soon!
When I was a young girl I fell in love with the space program, and I am so excited for all of the resources available now for kids that love the stars. Even more, there are so many examples of women in STEM that I thought I'd share a few.
A new discovery for me is an amazing account, The Space Gal, by Emily Calandrelli. I actually came across her on TikTok because, of course I ended up in the space nerd section. She is fun and friendly and shares current space program news and facts. She is also an author of children's books, Ada Lace Adventures, about a little girl who loves science and technology. Her and her best friend use their love of science to tackle life. I would have LOVED these as a kid!
BBC Science Magazine, Focus, has a great article on Ladies who Launch, the stories of the women behind the Apollo Program that I encourage you to check out. I had no idea that a woman was integral to the Abort Guidance System that saved lives! Truly a compelling read.
Finally, for my ongoing series on snacks to serve at star parties, I give you, No Bake Cosmic Brownies! Do you remember those domino-looking treats that just seemed to hit the spot late at night? Wouldn't they be perfect for a stargazing snack?
Okay so, I can't have the Little Debbie version for health reasons, but that doesn't mean I don't miss those little colorful cakes of chocolate goodness. Fortunately, there is a great copycat recipe from Six Vegan Sisters Blog that is to die for!
Its vegan, and gluten free! Best of all, you don't even have to bake it. Just chill and pull it out with your hot cocoa when the sky starts to light up!
Finally, I want to leave you with a great short video of the Perseverance Launch in case you missed it. A world of space-faring peoples is in our future and I cannot wait!
